    1. He is a Romantic hero because because he went into the woods to contemplate and Romantics like the woods because it is a part of nature. He was also young and he got away from the town and the Romantics didn’t like towns. He is innocent even though his wife didn’t think so. ” But his wife kept continually dinning in his ears about his idleness”

    1. Rip Van Winkle is a Romantic hero because the story was supernatural because he took a nap for twenty years. It focused on simple natural beauties because he went into the forest to sit and enjoy the beauties of natural life. He was also good with women. The story values myth, legend, and folk culture.

I think Rip Van Winkle is seen a model American Romantic hero because he loves nature. He is one with nature. He was a “Natured man” pg.145. He would go into the woods just to relax and think. He was brave. He was handsome. He was a “happy moral” ” Well oiled dispositions who take the world easy” pg. 147 then it should be taken. He likes being alone with peace. Also to relax think and sleep right in the woods. He was a very young man. He liked to relax think and nature over anything. He would hang out with Nicholas Vedder who was also layer back and just like him. that is how i think Rip Van winkle is seen as a model American Romantic Hero. http://www.google.com/imgres?q=rip+van+winkle&um=1&hl=en&sa=N&biw=1355&bih=699&tbm=isch&tbnid=9snHknSzTFEIuM:&imgrefurl=http://englishfor1a.blogspot.com/2008/04/rip-van-winkle.html&docid=8PFtDg0298pmAM&imgurl=http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_IEtmmKuIWbo/SBNbqRFiC2I/AAAAAAAAAME/c0RRLYUuvZY/s400/ripVanWinkle.jpg&w=364&h=332&ei=0isGT_PUFMXsggfA0I2IAg&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=290&vpy=177&dur=1912&hovh=214&hovw=235&tx=136&ty=136&sig=117409532309086477044&page=1&tbnh=137&tbnw=162&start=0&ndsp=23&ved=1t:429,r:1,s:0

Rip is an American Romantic Hero because he loves nature, is innocent and pure of purpose, finds beauty in nature, uses his imagination to go in the wilderness, finds beauty and truth in the inner world of his imagination, and despises the artificiality of civilization and seeks unspoiled nature.

Rip Van Winkle is seen as a model American Romantic Hero because he loves nature and avoids life activites, quests for some higher truth in the natural world, and he also has a knowledge of people and of life based on deep, intuitive understanding, not on formal learning. the quotes are:
Page Number 148 “Poor Rip was at last reducd almost to despair; and his omly alternative, to escape from labor of the farm and clamor of his wife, was to take gun in hand and stroll away into the woods.”

Rip Van Wrinkle is a romantic hero. He is a romantic hero because as a young man Rip went into the woods to contemplate. He acted as an individual self and was an innocent fellow. “A simple good natured fellow.” P.145 It is ideal that he goes into the woods to get a way from his wife. “His only alternative, to escape from the labor for the farm and clamor of his wife was to take his gun in his hands and stroll away into the woods.” P.148 He was innocent even know his wife didn’t think so. ” His wife kept continuously dining in his ears about idleness and his carelessness.”P.147 Rip found beauty in that Catskill Mountains. “For some time Rip laid musing on the scene.”P.148 He told tales. “Telling endless sleepy stories about nothing.” P.147

Rip Van Winkle is an American Romantic hero because at young age even into adulthood rip would go into the woods and contemplate. “was to take gun in hand and stroll away into the woods.” (pg.148) this was Rip’s last resort to escape away from his wife. He accepted himself as an individual and did what he wanted to.He was an innocent fellow because he always did what his wife told him to. “but his wife kept continually dining in his ears about his idleness” (pg.147) Rip’s wife said to him as he was relaxing. It was ideal for Rip to go to the mountains and rest because his wife very often nagged. This is how Rip became one with nature. He imagined the world as he wanted it to be. The way he pictured it was a slow pace lazy world. He was an innocent man even though his wife didn’t think so. She thought that if you were lazy or layer back you should be taught otherwise. The innocent man was put to sleep by gnomes for twenty years. This reason was unknown to Rip. They had also taken his dog Wolf. This even mad a man as unstressed man as Rip angry. This is why I believe Rip was a Romantic hero.

How is Rip Van Winkle seen as a model American Romantic Hero?

Rip Van Winkle is an American Romantic Hero because he fit all of the qualities to be an American Romantic hero. Rip Van Winkle was young before his journey into the woods. “ Rip Van Winkle had unconsciously scrambled to one of the highest parts of the Catskill mountains he was after his favorite sport squirrel shooting” page 148. This shows that Rip Van Winkle was still young if he still liked to go squirrel shooting. Rip Van Winkle was also an innocent person because he never was a trouble maker and always helped out people before himself. “Rip was ready to attend to anybody’s business but his own” page 146. Rip Van Winkle was also one with nature he loved the woods more than his city (which Romantic’s like) he was always going off into the woods. He was also a loner because his wife never was around him because Rip Van Winkle was always in the woods. “Rip Van Winkle had unconsciously scrambled to one of the highest parts of the Catskill Mountains” page 148. Rip Van Winkle was also handsome and brave because he was always good with the ladies and in the woods alone. “He was a great favor among good wives” p145. “Take his gun in his hand and stroll away into the woods” page 148. These two things make him handsome and brave. Rip Van Winkle was honorable which is another quality of an American Romantic Hero. Rip Van Winkle was honorable because when he came back from his twenty year sleep he had a legend about his disappearance. “With his gun and never has been heard of since his dog came home without him but whether he shot himself or was carried away by the Indians nobody can tell” p 155. These qualities make Rip Van Winkle a Romantic hero.

Rip Van Winkle is seen as a model American Romantic Hero because he is innocent by not doing anything wrong. He loved nature, on page 145 it says he was a ”good natured fellow” He also escaped into the woods for peace which shows how he loves nature. He uses imagination by imagining himself fishing. He likes to relax, think and sleep outside which shows he’s calm and also shows his individuality because he does that by himself. He’s also brave and always helps people. ”He would never refuse to assist a neighbor even in the roughest toil” on page 146. Another thing that makes him a Romantic hero is he was a happy mortal with a big imagination. On page 147 it says ”Rip Van Winkle, however, was one of those happy mortals, of foolish, well-oiled dispositions, who take the world easy, eat white bread or brown, whichever could be got with least thought ot trouble, and would rather starve on a penny than work for a pound” He worked individually and liked his time alone to just think. Another thing is children loved him which is a sign of innocence. Thats how I think he is a Romantic Hero.

Rip Van Winkle is seen as a model American Romantic Hero in a lot of different ways. He was very innocent, and he never did anything wrong. He loved nature and all natural things. “He was a simple good-natured man.” (Page 145). He went to the Catskill Mountains to escape and slept peacefully there. He liked to relax and think and he didn’t do a lot of things. He never went out, he was a simple man. He didn’t live in a big city, he lived in a small town and was satisfied with that. He was a happy, foolish mortal with a big imagination. “Rip Van Winkle, however, was one of those happy mortals, or foolish, well-oiled disposition, who take the world easy, eat white bread or brown, whichever can be got with least thought or trouble, and would rather starve on a penny than work for a pound.” (Page 147) He was very easy- going and didn’t work very much. He also loved to help people. “He would never refuse to assist a neighbor even in the roughest toil. (Page 146) He did things individually and liked spending time alone and thinking. He was also very brave, too. He went alone into the Catskill Mountains, which I think is very brave. Rip Van Winkle is a true model American Romantic Hero.

    1. Rip Van Winkle is an American Romanticism model because he has inoocence from his wife. He loves being idealistic, being free, loves nature, and escaping to think about how to improve things to make himself a happier pleased man than he already (almost is).

  • andrewm20133

Rip Van Winkle is seen as an American Romantic Hero because he went out by himself in the woods into a peaceful place which is what the romantics did. He was an innocent man and did nice things wich are qualities of romantics. (Pg.145) He also is a hero because he got away from town which the romantics did. He would prefer weeds over a nice garden like how he doesn’t take care of his farm and lets weeds grow.
