300

“A Greek force of approximately 7,000 men marched north to block the pass in the summer of 480 BC. The Persian army, alleged by the ancient sources to have numbered in the millions, arrived at the pass in late August or early September. Vastly outnumbered, the Greeks held off the Persians for seven days in total (including three of battle), before the rear-guard was annihilated in one of history’s most famous last stands. During two full days of battle, the small force led by King Leonidas I of Sparta blocked the only road by which the massive Persian army could pass. After the second day of battle, a local resident named Ephialtes betrayed the Greeks by revealing a small path that led behind the Greek lines. Aware that his force was being outflanked, Leonidas dismissed the bulk of the Greek army, and remained to guard the rear with 300 Spartans, 700 Thespians, 400 Thebans and perhaps a few hundred others, the vast majority of whom were killed.” (Wikipedia)

Despite losing the battle, three hundred Spartans fought against Persians where they were outnumbered.  Why does this soldier tell the tale of the loss as if it were a victory?

How is this like “The Charge of the Light Brigade”?

    1. The soldier tells the story as if this battle was a loss and not a victory becaus they want to say that even though they had fought hard while being outnumbered. Even though they lost the battle they won the war. If they lost they would know the reason why. They knew that they fought hard and it was for their culture or group of people like we do today when we fight for our country.

    2. This is like the Charge of the Light Brigade because they were in the same situation as the 300. They were fighting for their country, freedom, and pride. These were the noble and brave 300. They fought with confidence and they preservered over this feat.

This how the war of the 300 and the charge of the Light Brigade were alike. Both of the wars the perspective that we look at were outnumbered. They were outnumbered by a very lot. They both had lost the battle that we looked at but they both won the war. They were both very intense battles.
Now the solider was telling the battle as a victory because they had a lot of confidence. Even no they were outnumbered they still fought for their country. They probably knew they were going to lose but tried anyway. The solider probably wanted to win really badly. Finally they tried very also with a lot of confidence.

    1. I believe that the soldier told the loss as a victory bacause it wouldn’t end the war. They would still have a very good chance to win the war. The spartans would send more troops and have a new plan for the next battle. The spartans were out numbered in this battle and used the techniques that worked against them and would stop that. The spartans new there oponents strategies and would be able to learn how to stop it. The soldier with the report new what they needed to know to defeat their oponent.

2.This is like “The Charge of the Light Brigade” because They both last the battle. But, they both also won the war. They both had courage in their loss but learned from there mistakes. They both regrouped and prepared for the next part of the battle. They fought well and hard for there country. They pushed onward for victory. Both sparta and the brigade had very strong leaders. There laeders did whatever they could to get to victory. They both suceeded and went down in history.

    1. Despite losing the battle, three hundred Spartans fought against Persians where they were outnumbered. Why does this soldier tell the tale of the loss as if it were a victory?
The solider tells the tale as if it was a victory because even though Leonidas and his three hundred were outnumbered they still fought in the war. The storyteller wants them to be honored for what they have done. For they should not be honored as losers but winners. I think this because they never gave up and fought for Sparta even though they were outnumbered. The teller told this story with emotion probably because the war was an intense battle.” His wish was simple remember us he said to me that was his hope”. When the teller tells the Spartans, this he wants them to remember Leonidas and the 300, he only wants them to remember them not anything else. That is why he tells the story as a victory.
    2. How is this like “The Charge of the Light Brigade”?
This story is like “The Charge of the Light Brigade” because in “The Charge of the Light Brigade” the British lost too. But Tennyson makes it seem like they won the war. He did this because he wanted them to be remembered as heroes because they fought very bravely. They were like the Spartans, out numbered, but they both didn’t give up hope. Both of these troops were very brave and were dedicated to their country. I think both of these groups should be honored forever.

    1. I think he said it like it was a victory because he wanted to motivate the soldier’s for the next battle. I also think he said it because a lot of the soldiers fathers, brothers, and other family members died in the battle, and he wanted to show his appreciation for them.

    2. I think it is like “The Charge of the Light Brigade” because they are in a war. I also think it is like because even though most of the soldiers or men had died, they still had their glory.

1.He tells the lose of the Spartans and Persia’s battle as if it was a victory. He tells it because only 300 men went in to battle. They were out numbered but still went and fought the battle. He tells this because he wants to honor the people who went into the battle that day. They probably knew they were out number but the still fought. He wanted all the soldiers to know about the brave Spartans that went into the battle that day. Even know they lost the battle he honored them. I think whoever goes to battle and is very out numbered should be honored. The man honored them greatly by saying a great speech to the other soldiers. 2. This battle is “The Charge of Light Brigade.” These two battles are alike because both troops were out number. They went into battle even know they were out numbered. They probably saw that they were out numbered but they still fought the battle. They lost the battle. Both troops were honored greatly. Two men tell the story in some way, weather in a poem or a speech. They were same troops who fought with greatly uneven odds. Got info for “The Charge of Light Brigade” At

Despite losing the battle, when three hundred Spartas fought against Persians where they were out numbered, in my opinion the soldier tells the tale of the loss as if it were a victory because he’s proud. And even though they lost the battle they still were able to fight well against a larger group. Also they won in spirit so it was like a victory to them.

Sparta losing to Persia is like ”The Charge of the Light Brigade” because the British lost too in their war but they still did good. Also because, the British were out numbered as well, they had 600 and the Spartas had 300 so they both had few people. But the fact that they both faught with so few people and made it far, its like a victory to both of them.

  • andrewm20133

.1 The soldier told the story like it was a victory because he knows they lost the battle but he knows the war is not over. He also might tell it like that because he doesn’t want the soldiers to give up until they have done all they can.

    2. The video is similar to the Charge Of The Light Brigade because they lost the battle but won the war. It is also similar because they are out numbered.

The soldier tells the tale of the loss as if it were a victory because they fought so well and were so brave. They laid down their lives not just for Sparta, but for all of Greece and the promise that the country holds. They devoted themselves to the army with courage and bravery. They were outnumbered, but they still gave it all they had, even if it lead to death. Even though they didn’t win the battle, they were remembered. They lost the battle, but won the war. The soldier tells it as if it were a victory because they are so proud of the Greeks for laying down their lives and fighting so courageously.

This is like “The Charge of the Light Brigade” because if you read the poem without knowing anything about it, you would think that it was a victory, just like the soldier in the video told the tale as if it were a victory. They told it this way because they were so proud of their army for fighting so well and laying down their lives for their country. Another similarity between the two is that both of the troops were outnumbered. They both lost the battle, but won the war. Both of them are honoring their country and showing how well they fought during their wars. They fought so well, especially because they were outnumbered. The amount of people that survived was low. In both the video and the poem, they are giving glory to their country. In “The Charge of the Light Brigade”, Alfred Lord Tennyson often talks about “the six hundred.” The video talks about “the three hundred.” Even thought they lost the battles, they fought with courage and bravery, even if it lead to death, which for most of them it did.

    1. He told the story like they won the story because they were outnumbered ant they fought there hardest. And also because they just loss that battle but they stll won the war.

    2. This video was like the charge of the light brigade because they both lost a battle but still won the whole war. And becauswe they both were very outnumbered.

  • michaell3421

    1. They were out numbered by 93,000 Persians. The soldier tells the story as a victory because he wants to be courageous and wants to inspire his men. He also tells the story because of King Leonidas’s battle with his 300 men even though they were out numbered they kept on fighting and fighting until they were all gone but the soldier tell it as a victory mostly off of their pride of what they were doing.

    2. Its like the charge of the light brigade by their courage to do what they are meant to do in battle they both kept fighting until one person one and in the battle with the Spartans and the Persians the Persians came from all sides weather it was from the back gate the front of them or to the sides of them the attacked but the Spartans held their ground until they all died and they died for a reason not just because they got old or got killed they died for the city of Sparta they died for their pride and they had the guts t stand up to the Persians with only 300 men.

  • ralphg2499

    1. Because they tried their best they can do but they lost.
